Inspire Moment #116: Re-Create a Memory

How can you “get out of town” this week, without leaving your neighborhood?  Inspire Moment #116 offers encouragemet for you to take some time to think about how you can re-create the feeling that “getting out of town” gives you, without having to travel far at all.  Here are some steps on how to start –

1-Take five minutes and jog your memory to think about a time when you travelled that made you feel wonderful, peaceful, excited, relaxed, etc.

2-What is it about that memory that excites you?  Give that memory a name.

3-Think about a place in the neighborhood or nearby within driving distance that can help re-create that memory.  Where is it?

4-Ask yourself – when can I go?  Then schedule it!

5-Take an action step and go to that destination and bring the things you need to re-create the memory.  Maybe it’s a journal, a backpack, camera, whatever it is, bring it with you!

6-Smile and let the moment happen naturally and see and feel how it brings you a sense of joy.

Remember, life is a journey, not a destination.  Go at your own pace and enjoy the ride!

Inspire Moment #114: Puzzle Peace

You don’t force the pieces together when you’re putting together a puzzle, do you? So why try and force pieces of your life together to happen if it doesn’t feel like a fit?  Often times we force things to happen in our life when we want them to, not when they are supposed to.  It takes time and patience to look through that box of 1,000 puzzle pieces to find the right one.  The same is true in life, it takes time and patience.  We all know the waiting game isn’t easy, so below are a couple “Coach Angie” ways to encourage you until the perfect Puzzle Peace comes your way…

  1. Practice speaking out loud what you (and those you care about) desire to improve, remove, or change in life while you wait. I call it praying to God, but you may have a different exercise or different Attendant you leave your thoughts with (Inspire Moment #112).  Ask for more patience, ask for help, or ask for clarity on where to find that “next piece” while you wait.  Ask and you shall receive!
  2. Give thanks for what you have in your life right now and say it out loud. It could be thanks for the sunshine, thanks for the roof over your head, thanks for the two dollars you found in your wallet this morning, thanks for safe travels, thanks for a family that lives close, whatever it is, give thanks, and practice doing it every day. A verse I love to read about thanksgiving and joy is Phillipians 4:6-7…

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So, whether you feel anxious, scared, confident, or content today, your time will come when the pieces fit together. You might just have to Surrender it all and let go of trying to figure out why and when and forcing things to happen in your life, and instead just patiently wait because the perfect Puzzle Peace will surely come.

Inspire Moment #112: Mental Baggage: Carry-On or Check it?

When we travel we have the option of checking our bags at the airport or carrying them on the airplane with us.  Upon arrival at the airport if our carry-on is oversized, we’re forced to check our bag.  Like a suitcase overfilled with clothes and shoes, our mind can be overfilled with thoughts.  Our lives are packed with appointments, activities, obligations, etc. and all of these generate thoughts.   Just as we can leave our baggage with an Attendant, wouldn’t it be great if you had an Attendant you could leave your mental baggage with? (worry, troubles, concerns, resentment, anger, etc.)

001The Attendant I trust in is God.  You may have a different Attendant, but if you don’t consider the benefits of having one.   Imagine being able to leave your cares, worries, anxieties, troubles, at the feet of an Attendant who will care for them on your behalf?

When my mental baggage begins to overflow I turn to Matthew 6:25.  “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

Regardless of where you find your inspiration, letting go of the mental baggage can help lighten the load, bring you peace and comfort, and allow you to fly care-free.

Inspire Moment #108: Twenty-Second Time Out

They have them in NBA and NCAA basketball games, the Twenty-Second Time Out.  It is a halt in the game that is called at a strategically important point.  Inspire Moment #108 is about the Twenty-Second Time Out in your game, Your Life.  The questions I want you to ask yourself today is this…

1) When do you take a halt in the game (of life) your playing in to think strategy?

If you’re in it to win it, what’s going to be different about today?  Dwell upon having a more peaceful and joyful strategy.  Because, you know what?  It’s not just another day! (that’s the way I think at least)…It’s a NEW DAY to try a NEW strategy of doing, of acting, of serving, and all you need is a Twenty Second Time Out to start thinking that way.

2) When is the best time(s) for you to take your Twenty Second Time Out(s)?

Find the time.  The worst time of the day could very well be the best time of day for you to take twenty seconds.  If you don’t have a stop watch handy, I have a suggestion!  Put your hand on your heart for twenty beats and rest in YOU and your strategy for today because before you know it you will be back to the game of life…and life can change in Twenty Seconds!

So let’s take some action!  Why not take a Twenty Second Time Out right now?  Start by taking a big deep breath in, and then release.  You have plenty of time and when you are done, return for more Inspire Moments.

Inspire Moment #107: The Onion

Life is like an Onion…

Like the layers of an Onion, in Life you never know what chapters or layers might cause you to cry and tear up.  Some layers are thin while others are really thick.  Heck, that’s what happens when you peel an Onion, you cry!

So let me ask you this, if it’s OK to cry through the different layers of an Onion, how can you allow yourself to cry through different chapters in your Life?  Some chapters are much easier than others, while some seem like they take forever and get much harder as the days go by.  Other layers of life are a breeze, almost like the first layer you peel back of the Onion.  No sweat, that was easy!

Inspire Moment #107 is to help you give yourself a break and cry if you have to!  No matter how many layers you have to peel or tears you cry, I promise it’s all worth it.  Because when it’s all said and done, the more layers you experience the more flavorful your life will be!

Inspire Moment #102: Take Out the Garbage

It can overflow, become heavy, and it can even get a little smelly.  I’m talking about garbage, but specifically to the kind that can build up in your MIND.  Welcome to Inspire Moment #102 “Take Out the Garbage.”

Schedule some time ASAP to throw out, release, and burn that negative self- talk, those garbage thoughts that creep up and get old and smelly in your head.   You know the ones I’m talking about, the ones that nag you and keep you from getting to where you want to go.  Often times we don’t even realize that it’s garbage, because it becomes our routine thought pattern.  Coach Angie is here to inspire you to take it out TODAY!  If it’s keeping you from moving forward and evolving in any way, if the thoughts are not positive in any way, if you are feeling held back in any way, have you feeling stuck in the same routine in any way, or sinking in quicksand in any way, IT IS GARBAGE and it’s time to take it out.

I have several coaching strategies on how to, but the key step for me to share and encourage you with is to set a deadline as to WHEN you will take care of your trash.  Set a deadline.  Sure, you can keep it there for another couple weeks but it’s only going to get worse.  I will type it again…set a deadline to release, throw out, and get rid of the trash.  The first step might be the hardest, but the second step will be less smelly.  It’s time to take the trash out!
