Inspire Moment #118: Piece of Glass

Last night I removed a tiny piece of glass from the side my face from a car accident I was a victim of 13 years ago! I may not be as sharp as I used to be, but I’m still bringing hope into your life. Remember to keep your head up today! When it’s time for it to happen, it will. Sometimes it takes a very long time for something deep down below to come to the surface in your life, but when it’s your time you will know! Stay positive!

Inspire Moment #117: Cup of Joy

Rather than your usual morning Cup of Joe this week, I want to encourage you to indulge in a Cup of Joy instead.  It has zero calories, comes in tons of flavors from a Hi-Five to a Smile/Hello to a stranger, it has no sugar but is very sweet, and it will fill you up all day long!  Free refills, and if you want to carry your Cup of Joy with you throughout the day, their is a cup holder along your journey.

How to start?  Like Coach Angie always suggests, “Flip the Switch” in your mindset now to dwell on what is true, what is positive, and what is praiseworthy in your life to fill Your Cup of Joy today.  Look for ways to fill the Cup of Others along the way!

Inspire Moment #116: Re-Create a Memory

How can you “get out of town” this week, without leaving your neighborhood?  Inspire Moment #116 offers encouragemet for you to take some time to think about how you can re-create the feeling that “getting out of town” gives you, without having to travel far at all.  Here are some steps on how to start –

1-Take five minutes and jog your memory to think about a time when you travelled that made you feel wonderful, peaceful, excited, relaxed, etc.

2-What is it about that memory that excites you?  Give that memory a name.

3-Think about a place in the neighborhood or nearby within driving distance that can help re-create that memory.  Where is it?

4-Ask yourself – when can I go?  Then schedule it!

5-Take an action step and go to that destination and bring the things you need to re-create the memory.  Maybe it’s a journal, a backpack, camera, whatever it is, bring it with you!

6-Smile and let the moment happen naturally and see and feel how it brings you a sense of joy.

Remember, life is a journey, not a destination.  Go at your own pace and enjoy the ride!

Inspire Moment #115: Sit Still

Could you be the type of person going through daily life working on achieving success and getting tasks accomplished, only to really feel empty on the inside because you aren’t truly fulfilled?

If so, take an Inspire Moment and apply #115, and Sit Still.  Be alone, turn off the phone, eliminate any noise surrounding you, and take several deep breathes in and out and just Sit Still.  Welcome every emotion that comes to your mind and body and let it cleanse itself in whatever way it needs.  Crying, laughing, shouting, whatever.  Feel it invade you and let it happen.  Take that well deserved time to understand why you feel a lack of fulfillment and try to determine what you could “test out” and try to change in your daily routine to feel a new sense of fulfillment.

Inspire Moment #114: Puzzle Peace

You don’t force the pieces together when you’re putting together a puzzle, do you? So why try and force pieces of your life together to happen if it doesn’t feel like a fit?  Often times we force things to happen in our life when we want them to, not when they are supposed to.  It takes time and patience to look through that box of 1,000 puzzle pieces to find the right one.  The same is true in life, it takes time and patience.  We all know the waiting game isn’t easy, so below are a couple “Coach Angie” ways to encourage you until the perfect Puzzle Peace comes your way…

  1. Practice speaking out loud what you (and those you care about) desire to improve, remove, or change in life while you wait. I call it praying to God, but you may have a different exercise or different Attendant you leave your thoughts with (Inspire Moment #112).  Ask for more patience, ask for help, or ask for clarity on where to find that “next piece” while you wait.  Ask and you shall receive!
  2. Give thanks for what you have in your life right now and say it out loud. It could be thanks for the sunshine, thanks for the roof over your head, thanks for the two dollars you found in your wallet this morning, thanks for safe travels, thanks for a family that lives close, whatever it is, give thanks, and practice doing it every day. A verse I love to read about thanksgiving and joy is Phillipians 4:6-7…

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

So, whether you feel anxious, scared, confident, or content today, your time will come when the pieces fit together. You might just have to Surrender it all and let go of trying to figure out why and when and forcing things to happen in your life, and instead just patiently wait because the perfect Puzzle Peace will surely come.

Inspire Moment #113: Socially Accepted or Self-Accepting

Most of this world seems to be more concerned with being Socially Accepted (fitting in, gaining the approval of others) than being Self-Accepting (embracing your true self with all of your unique imperfections).  Well, it doesn’t have to be this way for you.

Think about it this way…what if you re-frame how you look at your imperfections and choose to embrace all of you?  And really, why are we so concerned with what the average person out there thinks of us anyway?

You can make the choice each morning to be Self-Accepting by taking off the façade and just being you.  That might be scary, but the more you practice being you, the more natural and comfortable it will feel.

God created you just the way you are, perfectly imperfect.  What a gift!  Life is a gift and it’s what you make of it.  When I choose to let go and embrace my imperfections to make the choice to be Self-Accepting, I can tell you, it’s absolutely freeing!  You can “test it out” for yourself today and it starts with letting go of what other people think, letting go of trying to gain the approval of others, and letting go of trying to be someone you aren’t.

Below are four statements that can help you feel more Self-Accepting.  Speak these throughout the day and see how it feels…

  1. I am Perfect just the way I am.
  2. I am choosing to be Self-Accepting.
  3. I was designed this way for a reason.
  4. I really am Perfect just the way that I am!

You get to make a choice each morning and it’s up to you!

Inspire Moment #112: Mental Baggage: Carry-On or Check it?

When we travel we have the option of checking our bags at the airport or carrying them on the airplane with us.  Upon arrival at the airport if our carry-on is oversized, we’re forced to check our bag.  Like a suitcase overfilled with clothes and shoes, our mind can be overfilled with thoughts.  Our lives are packed with appointments, activities, obligations, etc. and all of these generate thoughts.   Just as we can leave our baggage with an Attendant, wouldn’t it be great if you had an Attendant you could leave your mental baggage with? (worry, troubles, concerns, resentment, anger, etc.)

001The Attendant I trust in is God.  You may have a different Attendant, but if you don’t consider the benefits of having one.   Imagine being able to leave your cares, worries, anxieties, troubles, at the feet of an Attendant who will care for them on your behalf?

When my mental baggage begins to overflow I turn to Matthew 6:25.  “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?”

Regardless of where you find your inspiration, letting go of the mental baggage can help lighten the load, bring you peace and comfort, and allow you to fly care-free.
